About 8 in 10 Americans (79 percent) in a Quinnipiac University poll in April said they disapproved of the Court’s ruling, including roughly equal numbers of Democrats, Republicans, and independents. That closely matched the results of an ABC News/Washington Post poll back in February, which found 80 percent opposing the ruling, including 65 percent who opposed it “strongly.”

The ABC/Post poll also found that more than 7 in 10 supported an effort by Congress to reinstate limits on corporate and union campaign spending, including more than half who said they “strongly” supported that. more
Congressional Republicans who don't think the party needs an agenda should consider the performance of Rep. Pete Sessions and Sen. John Cornyn on Meet the Press over the weekend. Asked about their affirmative program, the leaders of the GOP campaign committees in the House and the Senate sounded a very uncertain trumpet — indeed, one that was halting to the point of being embarrassing.

House GOP campaign chief Rep. Pete Sessions (Texas) said that he has joined the newly-formed Tea Party caucus.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) chairman told reporters on Tuesday that he “is going to join ... have joined, the Tea Party caucus.”

Sessions is the second member of the GOP leadership to join Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-Minn.) controversial caucus. GOP Conference Chairman Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.) announced on Monday that he was signing up as well. Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) is the other conference member to have joined. more
The reviews of Republicans Pete Sessions and John Cornyn and their performance, or lack thereof, on NBC's Meet the Press yesterday has come in. All indications are that it landed with a loud thud in not only GOP circles, but amongst the American people as well.

As leader of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Pete Sessions is tasked with candidate recruitment and fundraising toward the effort of taking back the House of Representatives this coming November. But according to the Chair of the Texas Workforce Commission, a Rick Perry appointee and Republican stalwart, Tom Pauken doesn't think Sessions is smart enough for the task. more
This morning Pete Sessions made an appearance on Meet the Press. Instead of offering real solutions for job growth, fiscal responsibility and the issues voters are concerned about, Sessions chose to promote his own deeply partisan personal agenda. His behavior was that of a typical DC insider. He played the Washington blame game, but failed to offer any true solutions of his own.

They were lobbyists — the best bargain in Washington. Capitol Tax Partners, for example, is one of 1,900 firms that house more than 11,000 lobbyists registered to operate in Washington. Last year, according to the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), firms like Capitol Tax were paid a total of $3.49 billion for unraveling the mysteries of the tax code for a variety of businesses. According to Capitol Tax co-founder Lindsay Hooper, his firm provided "input and technical advice on various tax matters" to such clients as Morgan Stanley, 3M, Goldman Sachs, Chanel, Ford and the Private Equity Council, which is a trade group trying to head off a plan to increase taxes on what's called carried interest, a form of income enjoyed by the heavy hitters who run venture-capital and other types of private-equity funds.

WASHINGTON — Too many Republican leaders are acquiescing to a poisonous "demagoguery" that threatens the party's long-term credibility, says a veteran GOP House member who was defeated in South Carolina's primary last month.

While not naming names, 12-year incumbent Rep. Bob Inglis suggested in interviews with The Associated Press that tea party favorites such as former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and right-wing talk show hosts like Glenn Beck are the culprits. more
Not everybody got the change they were looking for in 2008. In the 32nd congressional district of Texas, it's hard to get anything but the status quo, 'cause the district was gerrymandered that way, as a safe Republican seat specifically designed for "Taliban" Pete Sessions.

But today, at a Fourth of July parade in Dallas, we declared that the status quo has got to go, and rallied behind our congressional candidate, Grier Raggio! more
